    Recent developments in salmon farming have transformed a once luxurious foodstuff into a relatively cheap source of protein. However, like chicken production, this has been through the use of intensive methods and the wholesale use of chemicals. In addition, wild Atlantic salmon are now described as an endangered species, and environmentalists are urging fishermen not to catch them.

Heritage Certified Organic Salmon is the first certified organic Atlantic salmon from the Americas.

Today's consumer is concerned about healthy eating and food safety. Certified Organic Salmon from Heritage addresses both of these issues. Consumers trust certified organic products to be healthy, natural and safe.

From egg to finished product, Heritage Certified Organic Salmon are raised under rigorous organic guidelines in order to maintain certification Certified by Naturland Verband, an organic certification body accredited under the IFOAM accreditation program and the USDA National Organic Program.

Heritage Organic farms border a national wildlife sanctuary and operate in harmony with this protected environment. The park's support of our organic program was integral to receiving organic certification from Naturland.

Heritage employees live on-site to optimize the care, feeding and health of the fish. These salmon are fed a diet of organic ingredients. This feed was developed with Biomar Chile. Phaffia, a natural yeast based pigment, is added to the feed to give the salmon the natural pink color consumers expect. The feed includes renewable, vegetable based ingredients, and meal created from by-products of fish caught for human consumption.

Fish enjoy more freedom in the ocean pens, which creates a healthy and less stressful environment for the salmon. Feed consumption is monitored and optimized using underwater cameras. Environmental monitoring of the sea bed ensures that conditions return to normal before fish are re-introduced.
