Our message
It’s been quite a year for EcollegeY and Organic Food in general. Who knew, that from providing farm fresh vegetables in the fall of 2004 to a handful of families we would grow to become Montreal’s only full service Organic Grocery Store.
We’ve expanded twice now and are constantly trying to be creative with the space we’re in.
Although our store may be small we do have the best selection of fresh Organic Food available anywhere in Montreal.
We maintain close relationships with our local farmers as well as our customers. This is a beautiful thing. Our goal is to strictly adhere to the policies and spirit of the Organic movement.
It is a fact that “Organic” appears to have become the buzzword of recent times, but let us assure you that we are committed to providing you with the finest, freshest and most nutritious food available. All of it “Organic” and sourced as locally as possible.
There is no contradiction to what we do and what we are about.
We understand the issues and would like you to understand them as well.
Organic food is all about the environment, from the way we care for the land and produce, package and ship our food to you, the consumer, who lives on this planet and consumes the food to fuel your bodies.
We call our company EcollegeY for a reason; we believe that it’s important to learn how the choices we make impact the ecological balance of our environment.
We offer food that we believe in; grown and raised by people we know and trust.
There is no doubt that Organic Food has become trendy. Organic is the fastest growing sector in the food industry and all the major players are hoping to cash in. Although this does work in our favour by increasing Organic awareness it doesn’t help to develop Organic understanding. Granted it’s hard for the big players to inform the public of the real concerns about conventional food since that is their real business; Agri-business, food grown from GMO seeds, animals fed a steady diet of growth hormones and antibiotics; these are the issues. If people don’t actually understand these issues they become susceptible to developing a herd mentality. This can be problematic because the average consumer will quickly forget why they were buying Organic food in the first place and go back to their regular shopping habits
Our responsibility is to our planet, our business and our customers.
It is our duty to grow carefully and not become part of a trend. With the limited finances available to us we will try to grow this business in a sustainable manner, in the same manner as the farms we deal with grow your food.
We promise to do our very best to keep the best selection of food available to you throughout the year.
